A fridge freezer is an appliance that can be found in almost every household in the UK. This appliance features both a separate fridge and a separate freezer. With a fridge freezer, you are able to store both fresh and frozen food within the same unit.

There are a few different types of fridge freezer, so you can choose which best suits your home.

  • Top Mount – With a top mount fridge freezer, the freezer compartment is located about over the refrigeration section. This is often the most energy efficient.
  • Bottom Mount – With a bottom mount fridge freezer, the freezer compartment is on the bottom underneath the refrigerator. Some models may have shelves inside the freezer, whereas others may have drawers.
  • Side by Side – As the name suggests, this fridge freezer has the refrigeration and the freezer compartments placed vertically side by side. These feature double doors that open from the middle outwards.

Fridge freezers are often chosen for convenience. Having a fridge and a freezer in one unit can save space as it means that you don’t need two separate appliances. You can store both fresh and frozen items and easily access them. Fridge freezers are often spacious with plenty of storage options including shelves, door shelves, crisper drawers etc.

Freestanding fridge freezers should easily fit into most kitchens. As long as there’s a sufficient space and a nearby plug socket, you should be able to add a freestanding fridge freezer to your kitchen.

Integrated fridge freezers are usually chosen as part of a kitchen renovation. By choosing to go for an integrated fridge freezer, you limit your choice of models as you have to ensure that it will fit inside the designated space. Integrated fridge freezers are becoming more popular in modern kitchens as they are easily hidden behind a cupboard door.

There are different things to consider when deciding where to keep your fridge freezer. If you wish to keep your fridge freezer in the kitchen, then you need to make sure you have the space and it is easy to get to. It is advised to keep the appliance away from ‘high traffic areas’, but still in easy reach for when you are cooking.

Fridge freezers can also be kept in garages, however you need to check the temperature of your garage. Fridge freezers should not be exposed to temperatures above 43℃ and below -17℃ as this can damage the appliance.
